Organisers of Fest 2011 say that the festival is striving hard to win back its position of absolute number one in the region. Borislav Andjelic, the festival's art director, speaking at a press conference on Wednesday said that Fest 2011 would bring some of the favourite movies from international festivals to a regional audience.
This year's main programme includes Venice winner, Somewhere, directed Sofia Coppola, Cannes Grand Prix recipient, Of Gods and Men, and Golden Globe winner, The King's Speech.
The list also includes some of the more high-brow Hollywood productions in line for this year's Oscars, such as Danny Boyle's 127 hours, the Cohen Bothers' True Gift, Clint Eastwood's Hereafter and Black Swann by Darren Aronofski.
The Europe out of Europe programme will see a heavy presence of films from the former Yugoslavia, including Circus Columbia by Oscar-winner Danis Tanovic, the Macedonian film, Mothers and a new Serbian production,Together.
Side programs include a retrospective of works by Nicholas Ray who shot Rebel Without a Cause with James Dean in 1955 and a list of some one dozen films shown at the first Fest in 1971, marking the 40th anniversary of the festival
