Gerard Butler to arrive in Belgrade

Gerard Butler, the popular Scottish actor who became famous after the role of King Leonidas in a film “300”, will have a role in the film “Coriolanus”. Shooting of the film starts in March next year in Belgrade.

The film will be directed by Ralph Fiennes who has the main role. Apart from Fiennes and Butler in “Coriolanus” which is a modern version of the well-know play by Shakespeare, William Hurt and Vanessa Redgrave will also be part of the cast. This will be Fiennes’s direction debut and the famous actor said that he chose Butler for this role because he has already had a role in the same theatre play. Last year Fiennes visited Serbia twice in order to see the potential shooting locations. Buildings which have left the strongest impressions on Fiennes are The Palace of Serbia and IMT factory. He has also visited Deliblatska pescara, Petrovardin and the PINK film studio in Simanovci. During his second visit in November last year, Fiennes met Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic, who promised the famous actor to have the police forces, gendarmerie and cavalry at his disposal for the shooting.
“Coriolanus” is a tragedy by William Shakespeare, based on the life of the legendary Roman leader, Gaius Martius Coriolanus. This Roman general got the name Coriolanus after conquering the Volscian city of Corioles in 493 BC. Condemned as a traitor, he was banished.

SANTA MONICA -- Gerard Butler is the lure for buyers at AFM eyeing a deal for rights to Ralph Fiennes' directorial debut "Coriolanus."

Butler has signed to star opposite Fiennes in what is billed as a contemporary version of Shakespeare's Rome-set political and family drama.

Butler will play Tullus Aufidius, commander of the Volscian army from Shakespeare's play. He joins a cast that includes William Hurt, Eddie Marsan, Jessica Chastain and Vanessa Redgrave.

The project is being repped by Icon Entertainment International at AFM.

Set to begin shooting in Serbia in March, the movie is produced by Julia Taylor-Stanley (Artemis Films), Gabrielle Tana (Magnolia Mae Films) and Colin Vaines (Synchronistic) from a script penned by John Logan ("The Last Samurai").

bene bene...spero proprio che ne venga fuori qualcosa di buono(anche se continua a non piacermi molto l'ambientazione moderna...)

ho letto adesso, e passando la fase "raffreddamentoentusiasmo" dovuto alla rivisitazione moderna...sono tanto contentaaaa!!!!!!
mi sembrava alquanto improbabile anche prima di sapere della nuova ambientazione!

Definiamola pure un’amichevole tragedia.

Fresco fresco dalla commedia La dura verità e dall’imminente The Bounty con Jennifer Aniston, Gerard Butler ha accettato, secondo quanto scrive l’Hollywood Reporter, di recitare nell’adattamento di Ralph Fiennes della tragedia Coriolano di Shakespeare.

L’opera segue le vicende di un orgoglioso eroe di guerra romano (Fiennes) che tradisce il proprio popolo con l’aiuto di un ex nemico, interpretato da Butler.

Ne conseguono massacri e pentametri giambici. (Avviso spoiler: le tragedie di Shakespeare in genere non hanno un lieto fine per i protagonisti.)

Secondo il periodico, il film (il primo che vede Fiennes alla regia) aggiornerà l’opera teatrale del 1608 con un’ambientazione moderna, ma probabilmente manterrà più o meno intatto il linguaggio originale, perché alterare troppo la poesia di Shakespeare sarebbe una vera tragedia!
