HOLLYWOOD star Gerard Butler is on the hunt for his own Scottish castle.

The actor says he fell in love with the idea after being a wedding guest at a castle last summer.

Paying for a country pile should be no problem for the Paisley-born star, who is worth more than £25million, and he has already started searching for his dream baronial home.

Butler, 45, already owns homes in New York and Los Angeles but says his heart belongs to Scotland.

He said: “I was recently back for a wedding in a castle and walking through the gardens inspired me to get a place like that. I made up my mind to do it. Scotland really is where my heart is.”

And we decided to help out by compiling a list of Scots castles on the market.

Butler, whose movies include 300 and The Bounty Hunter, spent the festive season with family in Comrie, Perthshire, even meeting up with fellow expat showbiz correspondent Ross King one night.

Gerard’s mother Margaret lives in Perthshire with her second husband Alex Coll and it’s understood he is looking for a home close to his mum.

Pensioner Margaret, who raised her son after his dad walked out when he was a toddler, often accompanies him to film premieres but remains unimpressed by his star status.

He said: “It’s amazing how familial bonds just fall away and your mum pushes past you at a premiere because she wants to meet Hilary Swank. Of course, Hilary loved my mum. They all love my mum.”

Castle Gogar, Edinburgh, £2.5million
Butler is set to spend more time in Britain this year as filming is due to begin on London Has Fallen, the sequel to the action thriller Olympus Has Fallen.

After spending Christmas with his family, he flew back to America for the New Year to be with girlfriend Morgan Brown, an interior designer who he’s been dating for around six months.

In the past, Gerard has been linked to a long list of Hollywood’s leading ladies including Jennifer Aniston and Cameron Diaz and says he’s used to speculation about his love life.


He added: “Rumours are inevitable. I’m not saying I’ve never had anything with my leading lady but 90 per cent of the time, it’s not true.

“I love hanging out with women. They can be the best of friends and really look out for you in ways that guys sometimes don’t.

“I’ve got female friends I think are purely platonic. But perhaps there is always a sexual energy there.”

Butler is the new face of Hugo Boss Parfums and said such endorsements allow him to pick and choose his film projects.

He said: “It’s great. Now I don’t have to do that big, crappy movie I was going to have to take for the money.”

Gerard Butler’s movie career should have stopped at “300″ or his agent should start finding him a role other than the grizzled, handsome male lead. He did well as a voice actor in the “How to Train Your Dragon” films, maybe he should stick to it. He didn’t necessarily find his stride in “Olympus Has Fallen” and the same could be said for “Playing for Keeps.”

HOMESICK Hollywood idol Gerard Butler has splashed out almost £600,000 on a luxury bachelor pad.

The Paisley-born star has said he misses Scotland and spent months househunting in his homeland before choosing an upmarket flat in Glasgow’s south side.

Property records show Butler, 45, paid £582,000 for the apartment near Eastwood Toll, Giffnock, and doesn’t have a mortgage on the home. He snapped it up just a few weeks after it was put on the market by its previous owners.

The flat has three bedrooms, a private balcony, drawing room and underfloor heating.

It is believed that Butler, who also has homes in LA and New York, plans to use it as his Scottish base for trips back home.

The star has said he longs to be home after travelling the world shooting films. He said: “I grew up loving being Scottish and have a real passion for home and family. That is the hardest thing about being an actor and living in LA.

“In this job – and I’m not complaining – there’s lots of moving around and not a lot of spare time to maintain the ties and closeness you have to family and close friends.


“I love living in LA, and Dubai and Australia, too. They are amazing places to spend time in and, in the short term, are exactly what I’m after but, in the end, I want to move back to Scotland – back to my roots.

“Whenever I go home, I always return to LA feeling more like myself, that little bit more bullish. Life in LA can be a bit soft. I like to come back with Scottish attitude.”

Former trainee lawyer Butler has been dating interior designer Morgan Brown for about eight months. There have been rumours they are engaged but Butler recently insisted he is still a “bachelor”.
