http://www.mtvmoviesblog.com/2007/05/21/ge...bt-on-watchmen/in particolare
“The Untouchables,” he told MTV News. “[I play] the young Sean Connery, when he was still a detective,” Butler said of his role in the prequel “Capone Rising.” “It’s great, the script is phenomenal.”
The performance was Connery’s most popular since Bond, and even won the Scot an Oscar as Best Supporting Actor. Butler said that fans expecting an imitation, however, will leave disappointed. “Being Scottish and being tall, I’m gonna come across a little bit like Sean Connery…and people will make those comparisons,” he contended. “But I’m going to do my own thing.”
He’ll have plenty of opportunity, he revealed excitedly. “You know what? I think this character [has even] more [great lines] in him [than before], because this was a point where he was more a wheeler and dealer,” Butler exclaimed. “He has to deal with things coming for him, he has to deal with his own morality. In this story there’s so much going on with this guy that you really see a lot of different sides to his character.”
***

NIENTE PIÙ GANGSTER - Nicolas Cage è fuori da "The Untouchables: Capone Rising"

Things Are Looking Up on "Capone Rising"! (Blog)
http://hollywoodnoir.blogspot.com/2007/05/...one-rising.htmlThis just in from Variety .....
If Brian De Palma moves ahead with prequel "The Untouchables: Capone Rising," it will be sans Nicolas Cage.
Cage had been in negotiations to star in the follow-up, but talks have ended because of scheduling issues, according to his reps.
Relativity Media is financing the pic, while Paramount has domestic distrib rights. Art Linson, who produced De Palma's 1987 pic "The Untouchables," is producing the prequel as well.
In Cannes last week, Relativity's Ryan Kavanaugh announced that Gerard Butler has joined the cast.
Butler ("300") is set for the part of Jimmy Malone, played by Sean Connery in the original. Cage would have played the young Al Capone.
Cage is presently shooting "National Treasure: Book of Secrets," which opens in December. He hasn't said what his next movie will be after that.
This is great news indeed! As I've mentioned a couple of times before, Cage is too old and too thin to play a YOUNG Al Capone. Since they've still got Butler, King Leonidas himself, playing Malone, this is a perfect opportunity to find someone young, charismatic, and dynamic (and rotund) for the role. An unknown would be fine, but it certainly doesn't have to be a big star like Cage. This is their chance to get it right.
Now the only part that worries me is that DePalma is directing. "Let's see, where do I use the long tracking shot? And the 360-degree shot? And then the POV shot?"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
THAT'S THE HOLLYWOOD WAY
http://www.chud.com/index.php?type=news&id=10426Contributing sources: Variety
The Untouchables: Capone Rising has been dealt a significant setback: due to a scheduling conflict, Nicolas Cage has turned down the opportunity to play Al Capone opposite Gerard Butler's Jimmy Malone.
This is a big problem. Cage's casting lent the prequel legitimacy; now, the Brian De Palma-directed prequel is in desperate need of a name (or, failing that, a presence) to match the outsized menace of Robert De Niro in the 1987 blockbuster. Though many considered the casting of Cage a ludicrous commercial concession, he was at least a talent magnet; Butler, on the other hand, might be able to snag Emmy Rossum, Paul Walker or Dominic West. Suddenly, it's The Black Dahlia all over again.
There's no bigger cheerleader for this project than yours truly, but I don't want it to go forward without a talented cast. Though Butler is clearly the flavor of the month, I've always liked him as an actor; he'll be fine as Malone. What we can't have, however, is a cipher playing Capone; otherwise, you've got Carlito's Way: Rise to Power. That's why I think De Palma should chase down Billy Crudup. Stay with me here. He may seem like an earthy, soulful, non-violent kinda guy, but he's got the chops to do something special with this role. I once watched an unprepared Crudup walk into a reading of Oedipus and nail the lead character within ten minutes; in all seriousness, he's the closest thing we've got to Montgomery Clift. Moviegoers haven't come close to seeing the best of Crudup.
But De Palma probably needs a bigger name than Crudup to get The Untouchables: Capone Rising made, so, if you've got any ideas, post 'em on the message board; Brian might be reading. I'm still more interested in Redacted, De Palma's scabrous HD take on the war in Iraq (which, according to De Palma a al Mod, might turn up at the Venice Film Festival). But I'll take any De Palma I can get at this point. The number of filmmakers equipped with his visual fluency is diminishing by the day.

DePalma Promises Next 'Untouchables' Will Have Same Classic Score and Locations
http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2007/10/16/depal...-and-locations/You’re nothing but a lot of talk and a badge!” Those were the last words we heard from Al Capone in Brian DePalma’s insanely entertaining “The Untouchables” some twenty years ago. Well, just because Elliot Ness put Al behind bars to the swelling score of Ennio Morricone so long ago, the battle for Chicago has just begun.
Brian DePalma himself told me last week that “The Untouchables: Capone Rising” is likely to be his next film. This prequel will detail in DePalma’s words, “[Jimmy Malone]’s relationship with Capone during Capone’s rise.” Portraying the former character that earned Sean Connery an Oscar is Gerard Butler, Deplama confirmed. “Gerry is still with us,” he said.
The young Capone, however, remains uncast. Nicolas Cage was attached but is no longer on board. DePalma is on the lookout, though. What does the new Capone need? “You’ve got to have that street animal sexuality,” he said.
For those worried that this new film won’t fit in with the first now classic “Untouchables,” rest easy. DePalma plans to keep it consistent, “I would like to use a lot of the original music from ‘The Untouchables,’ and the original locations in Chicago.”
And what about a typical showy DePalma set piece to rival the shootout in the train station? The director promises, “It’s got a lot of fabulous set pieces in it. It will be a lot of fun to do.”
Are you as happy as I am that the glorious music of Ennio Morricone will be returning for the next “Untouchables”? Who do you think has the chops to play the young Capone?
