Was Nim's Island Always Destined For DVD? Nim’s Island looked like it had a lot of potential, but it felt like the adventure was almost over before it began. I’m sure low ranking reviews (like ours) probably didn’t help. Still, I can’t help feeling this movie has an audience out there. Obviously Fox thinks so too, since they have put a fair amount of effort into the DVD release.

The DVD and Blu-ray release of Nim’s Island will hit shelves on August 5th and really looks like the kind of thing young girls can play over and over again, driving parents into the depths of insanity as they recite lines along with the film. And hey, when they get older, there’s the rugged Gerard Butler to usher them into their teenage years.

The DVD includes an interesting choice for the movie – a commentary from stars Jodie Foster and Abigail Breslin. Maybe I’m jumping to a judgment too quickly, but it sort of reminds me of the idea of the commentary on The Princess Diaries where Julie Andrews and Anne Hathaway had tea. Can’t you see Breslin and Foster enjoying some sort of girl-time together as they watch the movie and talk about how much fun it was to make… and how entertained the movie’s target audience will be watching that over and over just like the regular version of the movie?

La storia, avvincente e originale, ha come protagonista Alexandra (Jodie Foster), una scrittrice di romanzi di avventura, adorata da milioni di bambini nel mondo per il coraggio dei personaggi che ha creato e per le pericolose avventure che racconta nelle pagine dei suoi libri. In realtà Alexandra è una donna molto insicura che non esce mai di casa e che ha paura del mondo esterno con il quale è collegata solo attraverso il suo fidato computer.
Un giorno una sua piccola fan (Abigail Breslin) le scrive un e-mail per chiedere il suo aiuto in qualità di "esperta delle avventure pericolose": la piccola vuole ritrovare il suo papà (Gerard Butler) scomparso in circostanze misteriose su un'isola sperduta. Alexandra è terrorizzata ma non può ignorare questo appello accorato. Trova dentro di sé il coraggio di uscire di casa scoprendo così che fuori c'è un mondo meraviglioso addirittura più bello di quello fantasioso dei suoi libri. Per la prima volta Jodie Foster interpreta un fantasy con effetti speciali strabilianti che lascia bambini e adulti ad occhi spalancati dall'inizio alla fine.

Comunque secondo alcuni siti, tra cui Blockbuster l'uscita a noleggio sarebbe stata anticipata al 25 giugno!

Sì, l'ho visto l'altro giorno, ma non l'ho preso perchè non ha contenuti speciali (parlo sempre della versione a noleggio) ormai credo che aspetterò che esca il dvd doppio in vendita.
