New York Times Bestseller “Men Who Can’t Love” Prepares For Its 3rd Movie Appearance
Los Angeles, CA – September 30, 2008 - Hollywood’s A-list producers, directors and actors are often accused of being barely literate, but movie-makers know that movie-goers can still read. And that has given “Men Who Can’t Love,” the classic bestseller by Steven Carter and Julia Sokol, a long career in the Hollywood spotlight. If Carter's success is any indication, bestsellers are becoming part of the Hollywood formula for box office revenue.

The Ugly Truth
“Men Who Can’t Love” made its on-screen debut in the 1989 Billy Crystal/Meg Ryan classic When Harry Met Sally. The book appeared once again in the film The Mexican, starring Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, and James Gandolfini. In that movie, Carter’s book got almost ten full seconds on-screen exposure. But the book's film career isn't over yet.

“Men Who Can’t Love” seems to like working in the movie business, and it will soon face a new and different audience as it makes yet another big-screen appearance. In April of 2009 “Men Who Can’t Love” will appear in the Katherine Heigl film The Ugly Truth. No one is releasing the details, but insiders suggest that Katherine Heigl fans will leave the theater with a lasting impression of the power of self-help books, particularly the power of “Men Who Can’t Love.”

Steven Carter doesn’t live in Hollywood, and he has never expected Hollywood to make him rich or famous. Though he is excited about The Ugly Truth, he has been much more focused on a series of recent, unexpected and unprecedented successes in Brazil. In the land of cachaca and caipirinhas, Carter’s books are realizing mass success. Carter’s celebrated bestseller status in Brazil was recently the subject of a feature story in the Los Angeles Times. The piece was quickly picked up by the Chicago Tribune, Newsday, and USAToday.com (for the complete article, go to http://www.latimes.com/features/books/la-e...0,2920383.story).

Carter’s success sends a message to writers everywhere: When it comes to the power of the written word, there’s just no telling where or how an author’s story will end.
