:mmm:

Gerard Butler Is Developing a Pinkerton TV Series

... but not the Pinkerton you're thinking of, Weezer fans. Deadline reports that Gerard Butler has teamed up with 24 co-creator Bob Cochran to develop a Starz series about Alan Pinkerton, the creator of the first detective agency in the United States, who was tasked with monumental missions like protecting Abraham Lincoln and tracking down Jesse James (hmmm, those could have gone a bit better). The limited series is planned to run only for about ten episodes, which coincidentally is the same amount of tracks in Weezer's beloved and resuscitated second album. We would totally watch a "Better Than Sex"–themed episode.

Roundup: Gerard Butler Joins '24' Creator for 'Pinkerton' Series

Gerard Butler is teaming up with television mogul Bob Cochran to produce Pinkerton, a short series showcasing fictional events surrounding the man responsible for founding the first detective agency in the United States, Scottish-born officer Allan Pinkerton.

Cochran is best known for co-creating the celebrated FOX drama 24, which featured Kiefer Sutherland as federal agent Jack Bauer. See the connection here?

Deadline exclusively reports that Starz has already drafted a pilot script for the 8-10 hour limited show run, with Butler serving as executive producer alongside Cochran and Angela Mancuso. Cochran is excited about the project and praises Pinkerton's impressive tactics in guarding Abraham Lincoln during his 1861 inauguration and preventing an assassination attempt on the 16th U.S. President in Baltimore.

"He was an amazing guy - he took part in all the great sweeping events of the 19th century," Cochran said.

Pinkerton aka "the spy master of the North" during the Civil War emigrated to America in his early 20s. He eventually served as the head of the Union Intelligence Service, which later became the U.S. Secret Service.

Currently, casting for the show has yet to be announced.

Scotland's greatest screen lawmen

As Gerard Butler takes on the role of legendary expat detective Allan Pinkerton, we look at some of our greatest fictional telly creations.

Scottish star Gerard Butler is in line to play famous real-life Glasgow-born spy and detective Allan Pinkerton in a big-money TV series.

The Scottish actor has teamed up with the producer of hit US show 24 to bring the story of the lawman who founded American's first detective agency to the small screen.

The 300 star has signed up as an executive producer of Pinkerton, but is also swithering over taking the lead role in the 10-part drama.

If Butler bags the part, he will just be the latest in a long line of Scottish detectives and spies to be featured on the small and big screen.

Si torna a parlare della serie televisiva

Scots star Gerard Butler on his dream role as famous Wild West detective

HOLLYWOOD star Gerard Butler has joined a posse ready to bring the Wild West's most famous detective to the small screen.

The actor wants to play Allan Pinkerton, the Scot who founded a detective agency, foiled an assassination attempt on Abraham Lincoln and hunted Jesse James.

Butler is executive producer of a new series from the makers of 24 due to be seen on TV in 2012 - and he is also being tipped to play the Wild West's most famous investigator.

Like Gorbals-born Pinkerton, Paisley's Butler left these shores to find success in America.
